Text Formatting dissapeared
« on: September 11, 2013, 02:01:50 pm »

Hello all,

I'm using Joomla 2.5.14 with K2, JCE 2.3.2.4 and jDiction 0.9.9.7. on website museedutrompeloeil.fr ( go to museum -> tromple l'oeil to see the problem....)

When I translate a K2 element, the text gets unformated when I save it (all tags dissapear : <p><H2><H3> etc...) so all I get is a continueus paragraphe.

I have tried all editors : JCE, Tiny MCE, Code Mirror, Non WYSIWYG, all with same result... Tags are blown away upon save or save & exit. Is This an XML problem for K2 ???

Where am I going wrong ?

Thanks

PS: It would be nice to be able to translate the additional fields in K2 in future version of jDiction... would be pleased to become future paid member. :)

Thank you Harald,

Unfortunately, text formatting is still getting zapped upon save.

I'll PM you access so you can take a peek.

Thank you again :)

Hmm I updated your jdiction version from 0.9.9.7 to 0.9.9.10^^

But this doesn't help... Are you sure you are using the new xml file?

maybe you install a file browsing component so I could check it my self.

the fact that you did a backup of jdiction.xml as jdiction.xml.old is maybe good but in this case both files got loaded and the old file overrides the first one...

I deleted the file now it works.

I thought I was doing things the right way ! Sorry 'bout losing your time.

Thank you very much for having taken care of my problem.

In the future, will jDiction be able to translate the additional fields in K2 ?

K2 additional fields is a powerful tool, allowing the user to create pseudo additonal fields.

Actually, what happens is that all the info is concatenated into one string.
This string is in (prefix)_k2_items table, in the extra_fields column. Extra field 'names' are in the (prefix)_k2_extra_fields table.

This allows for special page setups, as on my site, but also for many other uses. In my case, Extra fields are the main reason for my adopting K2 as contents manager instead of using standard Joomla content component. Much more functionality (not to mention better image resizing, easier video insertions, gallery et al...)

the Problem is not to add extrafields or translate  a json_encoded table (if its json encoded). The Problem is to find a generic way to support k2 and other components at the same time.

I'm not sure that it's possible to have generic solution to all components/modules with one "auto-magic" plugin. There are as many components as there are different logics behind them (sobipro comes to my mind!, Virtue mart and Hikashop too !:) )

Maybe it might be easier to just have "component-specific" add-ons to jDiction Component.
For example, between the jDiction Component tabs 'Tools' and 'Check', one could find 'Component compatibility" where user could find a library of xml files that they could upload to site (better yet, that would upload the xml file straight to the proper directory!)
This gives the user the choice of which components he would like to have transations for.( And in the same time, no need for jDiction to do the search of what components are or are not installed.)
Maybe this is semi-manual, but seems the simplest path to go. And I'm sure that users are smart enough to figure out which components they want to translate. :)

Another possibility is to simply follow the database tables, after all, absolutely all the website information is in there. But how to go about such a feat is way beyond the grasp my comprehension.

Unfortunately, I'll be of little help to you. I'm, at best, a php 'tinkerer'.
If I can be of any help, please mail me, I'd be glad to help (maybe for documentation or translation of ini file to french language for example....)

Thank you again for all your (RAPID) help and thank you for jDiction - a marvelous tool.

I'll certainly apply for a paid membership when that comes to be.

Best regards,
Vincent

That there will be no solution for all is clear ;-)

But there must be an API for the components.
A list of all supported components will happen but 3rd party components will be supported after 1.0 release... there are much other things todo.

I went and took a peek at the xml file that is in K2.
I see that you have commented out the Extra Fields.
I suppose that it's not working or is this for beta-testing ?

Also, I've noted a bug :

When translating K2 item, if I user translate button while in the K2 Item (the blue translate button) I cannot save translation, it gets wiped away.
However, if I use the Red translate icon (K2 Item not opened) Then everything goes well.
I suppose that this has to do with K2 Item opened or not, maybe related to K2 Item save status ?

How can I translate site description and site title in the General settings? It would be nice that homepage has translated version for Google.

Also, I think that the strange save behaviour was due to my navigator (chrome) bugging. Now works
